Day 05 — Your Favourite Quote

I’d like to say that I, like most writers, collect quotes – but the truth is… I don’t, really.

Which is sad! Because I’ve come across many quotes that I’ve loved. The thing is… I forget to write them down, or I’m just not bothered. Heh.

But, I do have some of my favourites noted down, which will do quite nicely for today’s challenge 🙂

Be who you are
And say what you feel
Those who mind don’t matter
And those who matter don’t mind.

– Dr Seuss.

This quote is one of the most inspiring I’ve read, personally. Sometimes we all just need to be reminded that we are who we are, and that’s alright. God, I almost sound like a psychiatrist… but in all seriousness, it’s true 🙂

* * * * * * *

Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry,
but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?

– Albus Dumbledore

Squee! Dumbledore gets most of the best quotes in Harry Potter. There are so many that I would have liked to put here! Alas, I restricted myself to just the one. I adore this quote because I can relate to it, I think. I feel like I live a lot of my life in my head, in my own little world somewhere – and it’s nice to know that it’s not all meaningless! Especially when it comes to dreams, or fiction, or whatever… 😀

* * * * * * *

Writing is easy; all you do is sit staring at a blank sheet of paper until the drops of blood form on your forehead.

– Gene Fowler

I never want to see anyone, and I never want to go anywhere or do anything. I just want to write.

– P. G. Wodehouse

And two quotes from writers, about writing, to finish off today’s post. I first stumbled across the Gene Fowler quote when I was working in a book store – having quotes about books and writing was part of the shelving displays, and this was one of the quotes that faced the cash register. Romantic image, right? Me, slaving away as a sales person, ocassionally having a moment to glance up and read this quote about what I often dreamed of becoming… hahaa.

I never realised how true it was though, until I gave NaNoWriMo a proper go last year. For those of you who have been deprived of it thus far in your life… National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, is where you set yourself the insane-but-enjoyable task of writing a 50k novel in the month of November. I completed it last year (with 2 hours to go and 10 words to spare!) but gosh… writing really is hard! Well… motivating yourself to sit down and write, and then the rewriting… but it’s all worth it, of course 🙂

P. G. Wodehouse’s quote is just awesome *grins* I adore him as a writer – his Jeeves and Wooster books are fantastic! – and this quote rings so true for me. Sometimes, this is exactly how I feel! Sadly, it’s not always possible… but I try my best 😉

Favourite quotes? I’d love to hear them!

And if you find yourself wishing to procrastinate on the internet a while longer – trust me, I know the feeling well! – take a look at my fellow Ninja’s Day 07 post!

Have fun!

    I have a page on my blog dedicated to nothing but quotes from books, every time I find one I like I throw it on there.

    “The life of a person is more than just the chaos of it’s passing.” – Vin from A Hero of Ages (book 3 of the Mistborn trilogy)

    “We are always more afraid than we wish to be, but we can always be braver than we expect.” – Sorilea from Lord of Chaos (book 6 of the Wheel of Time)

    “After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure” – Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (I agree, Dumbledore has some awesome lines)

    Here’s a few of my favourites, from my 6th form dairy. Unfortunately I don’t have them attributed to anyone though…

    “Set your sights high, the higher the better. Expect the most wonderful things to happen, not in the future but right now. Allow absolutely nothing to hamper you or hold you up in any way”

    “I love you more than the moon! More than the stars! More, even, than Jelly-tip ice-cream! Well, not quite, but it’s close!”

    “Without inspiration, the best powers of the mind remain dormant. There is a fuel in us which needs to be ignited with sparks”
