Day 28 β€” 10 People You Admire

Without any preamble…

1. John Barrowman

*beams* So much lovely. Here is a man who is the perfect example of always looking at life’s positives, living it to the full, and following your dreams. John is such an inspiring role model, especially through the support he provides for LGBT and for musically-talented people. And playing a hero like Captain Jack – it’s natural that people look up to him! He’s a truly genuine person, which can easily be seen in his books. Actually, after reading them, I really did feel like John’s best friend πŸ˜€ Wonderful actor, stunning singer… a beautiful soul.

2. J.K. Rowling

Bet you guessed this one, right? πŸ˜‰ Good old J.K. is the perfect picture of writerly success. She never gave up, even though she had many publishing houses turn her down – how gutted they must be now! Slaved away, plotting and writing for years! Ooohh, and the whole image of her writing in a cafe… heheheee. A very romantic idea of a writer, love it! πŸ˜€ And, well – she gave the world Harry, and Hogwarts! How could we not admire her?

3. Billie Joe Armstrong

Aaaah! Too awesome. Love his lyrics, love his voice… he’s really an awesome rock musician. And the fact that Green Day have been together for over 20 years now, with only one band member change after their first album – so, aaaages ago! – wow… simply amazing! And hell, Billie Joe is just so darn good looking… πŸ˜‰ That eyeliner? His ties? Those beautiful green eyes? Mmmm, yes please! πŸ˜€

4. Stephen Fry

*smiles* And not just because he’s in Wellington at the moment, either. I first fell in love with him through ‘Jeeves and Wooster’ and the Harry Potter audio books, and of course, his Twitter!Β  But I’ve been discovering more and more about Stephen – and I just adore him!! His documentary about Manic Depression (Bi-Polar) is so interesting, and heartbreaking, and it’s such a good thing to increase understanding of people who have it. It displayed such a real side to him, what is really underneath his comedic appearance. I have bought his two autobiographies, and can’t wait til my trimester of uni is over so that I have time to dive into them!! I actually also have his ‘The Ode Less Travelled’ book about how to write poetry, which is awesome! He’s got such a brilliant writing voice, I’m definitely planning on reading more of his books. And that’s another thing – he is incredibly funny. His use of language – his voice! – oohhh and his adorable smile πŸ˜€ Loooove.

5. Ma’a Nonu

*drools* Ohhhh. What to say? Love the eyeliner, the dreads, the muscle, the tatts, the smile! And his rugby skills, of course! πŸ˜‰ He’s bloody brilliant – did you see that try he scored last night against the Wallabies?? Pure. Gold. The first time I saw him in person, I’m embarrassed to admit that I was literally too starstruck to ask for his autograph. He had suddenly appeared on the field after a rugby game, to sign along with the other players there, and he was coming through the crowd. He said “Excuse me” to ME!! in order to get past, and I just gazed up at him like the biggest fangirl in existence πŸ˜€ The second time I met him, I was much more collected, and managed to get his autograph AND a photo with him. I did, however, tell him that story about being too starstruck… I also may have let slip that it was on my Bucket List to meet him… *cough* What a stalker, hahaaa!

6. William Shakespeare

…the Master of Words! πŸ˜€ Seriously, even if I didn’t study English, I would have read as many plays as I have by Shakespeare, as he truly is brilliant with plots, with characters, with twists, with emotion! He’s got it all down, mannn. It’s hard to choose my favourite play, as I’ve not read all of them yet, but… I think it would be Richard III, actually! May sound like a weird one to love, but it’s more than a mere history play – Richard III is one of the most devious villains ever, it’s great!

Ohhh and something that everyone must know, because it annoys me when people get this wrong: you know that quote, “Romeo, Romeo, Wherefore art thou Romeo?” Yeah, the “wherefore” actually means why! Which means that Juliet is actually asking “Why are you called/named Romeo?” , not “Where the bloody hell are you Romeo?” !! She’s brooding over his name because she just got told he’s a Montague, and therefore from the Capulet’s (her family) arch enemy’s family.

PLEASE pass this knowledge on. πŸ˜›

/end rant/

7. Andrew Lloyd Webber

From the Master of Words, we get the Master of Music! Such a fan – honestly, I WISH I had even a fraction of this man’s talent! He composes music that tells stories, makes you feel the same emotions as the characters, gives you chills… when I think of a song that give me chills, “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina” immediately leaps to mind, after being lucky enough to see it sung live in a show celebrating the best songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber. And ‘Phantom of the Opera’ is obviously fantastic πŸ™‚ However, I have a special love for ‘Cats’ because I grew up listening to the soundtrack, and remember rather vividly how I used to pretend to BE a cat, dancing around to the music. Can never say no to ‘Sunset Boulevard’ either, or a bit of ‘Joseph’s Amazing Techni-Colour Dreamcoat’. Oooohh and don’t forget his “flop” (insofar the “The Lord” can have a flop – it still got a DVD recording/release!!) ‘By Jeeves’!! πŸ˜€

8. Emma Watson

Awww, such a beautiful nature. She’s such a good role model – mostly πŸ˜‰ Emma didn’t go all crazy at being given fame at such a young age, which I guess would be easy to do, if you weren’t grounded. So, in that way, she’s really down to earth and genuine. The way she played Hermione was very fitting, and Hermione herself is someone to look up to too. I can’t help but love her accent… and she’s so pretty!!! πŸ˜›

9. Dr Matthew Trundle

To come back a little closer to home… here is one of my past lecturers, my idol! πŸ˜€ Ohhh man, I would go along to a lecture for a paper that I’m not even taking if it meant being able to listen to him lecture. He doesn’t need a microphone – he just booms it out, and he doesn’t have notes or anything – he just goes for it, off the top of his head! But he sounds perfectly articulate – like he just knows it, like the back of his hand. He lectures for Greek/Roman Classics, and has a book out, on Amazon! *gasp* πŸ˜› He even has his own VERB *giggles* Let me explain: One of my other Classics professors was lecturing when his microphone broke, and he was like “Oh well, guess I’ll have to Trundle it!” Teeheee. Love it.

10. My Mum!

Couldn’t leave my good old Mum out, could I? πŸ˜€ She’s the person I talk to the most, and the person that I know will always be there for me! She’s so strong, determined, and passionate about what she believes in. She’s still reaching for the stars, too – having just finished her first university degree a few years ago, which is something that I would be far too weak to do at such a time in my life!! πŸ˜› And she’s got dreams for her future, which I find truly inspiring πŸ™‚ It’s never too late to make a difference – thank you, Mum, for showing me that!

Awwww, soppy end to today’s post πŸ˜› Worth it though!

Have fun!

Day 01 β€” Your Favourite Song

Confession.

It’s literally impossible for me to choose just one song as my favourite. My music tastes are oddly vast, ranging from rock to country to pop to soundtrack to jazz to musicals to punk! And then some.

So… I’m cheating πŸ˜› On Day 01, no less.

Horrific.

Green Day β€” 21 Guns

Just choosing between my favourite Green Day song was hard enough, but I finally settled for this one.Β  It shows off all of my favourite elements of Green Day… Billie Joe’s amazing voice, his beautiful lyrics, and the musicjust… wow. Plus, great video. I am, however, a big fan of Green Day’s older punk-ish material as well, and my second favourite Green Day song would probably be She.

Lady Antebellum β€” Need You Now

Okay, so that’s not the real music video. That, in fact, is a fanvid that a wonderful fanfic mate of mine, Angelustatt, made for me to accompany my very first Torchwood fic. But this relates to one of the reasons why this is one of my favourite songs – it painted such an inspiring picture in my mind that I couldn’t help but fall in love with it. Simple, but effective.

Owl City – Vanilla Twilight

Gosh, I can be such a romantic sap sometimes. The lyrics to this song… squee! Electronic doesn’t usually appeal to me, but this is just wonderful. Another great favourite is If My Heart Was A House. It’s just makes me feel happy, every time I listen.

But anyway.

I should stop now, otherwise next I know, I’ll have 100+ YouTube videos linked here. I think this serves as a pretty good first post regarding music, and I’m certain that the topic will arise again soon!

So what about all of you? What are your absolute favourite songs? And, more interestingly, why?

Have fun!
