NaNo2011: The NaNoWriMo Song(s)!

To celebrate the relaunch of NaNoWriMo’s website – it’s so shiiiny! – I decided I’d do a quick post to inspire you all. And to entertain you, obviously ๐Ÿ˜€

Here we have my three favourite songs during NaNoWriMo. About NaNoWriMo, actually!

Yes. That’s right.

Kristina is a genius. ‘Nuff said. She loves Harry Potter, loves NaNoWriMo, is awesomely nerdy… squeee!

*giggle* Ohh, this one. The lyrics are absolute gold! ๐Ÿ˜€ All true, every single word.

And, finally…

NaNoWriMo by John Anealio

You can listen to it online for free, or purchase the song for just $1 – bargain! ๐Ÿ™‚

All three of these songs are just brilliant at getting me enthused for NaNoWriMo! But, be warned – they are ridiculously catchy. Seriously. They just get stuck in my head so easily, and I randomly find myself singing the lyrics – sounding incredibly weird too, I bet! Totally. Worth. It.

Day 16 โ€” A Song That Makes You Cry (Or Nearly)

Easy peasy!

Saddest song in existence is…

Hurt – Johnny Cash

*shivers*

Everything about this song is heartbreaking – but, in the best possible way. His voice, for one, is reflective of the emotions that he’s feeling, and also of his age. Reinforces the idea that he’s looking back on his past, and regrets. It is a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song, but of course Johnny Cash has truly made it his own song, embraced it, and made the song famous in his own right. The lyrics… just magnificient.

I think my favourite part, and the most haunting part, is the guitar at the beginning. Wonderfully understated tune = perfect! I could listen to that part on loop, mannnn.

I’ve been lucky enough to hear this played live (along with my Mum! :D), by Tex Perkins who has a show called ‘Man In Black in order to play Johnny Cash’s music. I was a bit worried that he might ruin Johnny Cash, but he was totally convincing, and a brilliant musician!! I truly believed him when he said “Hai, I’m Johnny Cash” with that special twang ๐Ÿ˜€ But yes, I had a silent, internal SQUEE when they played this song, because I honestly wasn’t expecting it! (or perhaps not so silent and internal, as I do recall elbowing my Mum furiously!) Very exciting ๐Ÿ˜€

But yes. This is THE song to listen to when you’re looking for something utterly depressing. But, remember, in a good way ๐Ÿ˜‰

Any other ideas, people? ๐Ÿ™‚ The more sad songs, the merrier, right…??

Have fun!

Day 01 โ€” Your Favourite Song

Confession.

It’s literally impossible for me to choose just one song as my favourite. My music tastes are oddly vast, ranging from rock to country to pop to soundtrack to jazz to musicals to punk! And then some.

So… I’m cheating ๐Ÿ˜› On Day 01, no less.

Horrific.

Green Day โ€” 21 Guns

Just choosing between my favourite Green Day song was hard enough, but I finally settled for this one.ย  It shows off all of my favourite elements of Green Day… Billie Joe’s amazing voice, his beautiful lyrics, and the musicjust… wow. Plus, great video. I am, however, a big fan of Green Day’s older punk-ish material as well, and my second favourite Green Day song would probably be She.

Lady Antebellum โ€” Need You Now

Okay, so that’s not the real music video. That, in fact, is a fanvid that a wonderful fanfic mate of mine, Angelustatt, made for me to accompany my very first Torchwood fic. But this relates to one of the reasons why this is one of my favourite songs – it painted such an inspiring picture in my mind that I couldn’t help but fall in love with it. Simple, but effective.

Owl City – Vanilla Twilight

Gosh, I can be such a romantic sap sometimes. The lyrics to this song… squee! Electronic doesn’t usually appeal to me, but this is just wonderful. Another great favourite is If My Heart Was A House. It’s just makes me feel happy, every time I listen.

But anyway.

I should stop now, otherwise next I know, I’ll have 100+ YouTube videos linked here. I think this serves as a pretty good first post regarding music, and I’m certain that the topic will arise again soon!

So what about all of you? What are your absolute favourite songs? And, more interestingly, why?

Have fun!
